Early Learning

Our staff are dedicated to providing students with a learning environment that encourages their curiosity and harnesses their wonder about the world around them. Read the Early Childhood Philosophy developed by our staff, that guides their approach to teaching.

Education and Care

From July 2024, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is pleased to extend its unique approach to Early Learning. The new Education and Care facility will provide a long day care option for children from 3 to 5-years old and will support the growth of the Little Grammies 3-year-old program and current Kindergarten program.  To find out more about this new offering please visit the Education and Care page, or see our FAQ page.

Little Grammies

Do you have a child who is turning 3 and is bursting with energy, is enthusiastic and eager to learn? Our ‘Little Grammies’ Pre-Kindergarten program is designed for 3-year-old children to experience the joy of learning. Developed and led by qualified and dedicated early learning staff, children are encouraged to learn through play, within an environment that is both stimulating and challenging. Your child will be encouraged to develop their sense of wonder and a deeper understanding of both themselves and their world. Children can attend one or two days per week and the program provides each child with a positive introduction to learning and a seamless transition into Kindergarten.

Please note this program is full for 2024. A second class will be considered should there be sufficient demand. To register for Little Grammies please complete this online application form.

Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten program provides a welcoming and safe environment, where we recognise the unique nature of each and every individual. Our students are viewed as capable, curious and intelligent individuals. They are encouraged to explore the world around them and delve deeper as they discover more and their inquiries unfold. These young learners will be exposed to a variety of experiences including painting, music, reading, role play, small group learning and outdoor nature play. These all work together to offer students the opportunity to build on their existing knowledge and understandings.

Our passionate and experienced staff are focused on providing your child with the best start to their learning journey and we keep our classes limited to 20 children to ensure the best educational outcomes and enable a strong relationship between the teacher, child and parents. Our Kindergarten program is offered four full days per week, providing students with more opportunities to learn, play and explore. Students are able to utilise the Before and After School Care service offered on the School campus.

There is currently a waitlist for Kindergarten in 2025, with a second class being considered should demand be sufficient. Please complete the online application

Pre-Primary to Year 2

Our Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2  program seeks to build on the Kindergarten experience and has a strong focus on encouraging learning through inquiry. We recognise that children are naturally curious and we take advantage of this to provide tools and resources that ensure students learn by experience. Our purpose-built early learning centres (The Eric Speed and Irene Bourne Centres) provide secure environments for students to explore and discover the world around them. From taking walks through our campus bushland to setting off on their first overnight camp experience, our youngest students are provided with many opportunities to take acceptable risks, think independently and develop their own sense of being. We seek to connect inquiry learning meaningfully to children’s lives and offer every child the opportunity to consolidate their learning by taking action.

One of the strengths of our School is the breadth and rigour of our academic offering. We accept that explicit teaching must sit alongside purposeful play and inquiry learning, and provide an atmosphere where children are able to frequently work in small groups to enable co-operation and enhance their learning. Additionally, our students have access to teachers who specialise in performing arts, sport and visual art; by introducing these subjects to our youngest students, we enable them to start learning more about their unique talents and strengths.
