Girls Football Wrap-up

We started with 20 girls enrolling for Australian Rules Football this year – this is a great number and hopefully we can have the same interest next year, if not more!

We introduced a BCGS bus this year for away games as we had so many boarders on the team – something that all the players enjoyed!

During the season, we organised an overnight footy trip to Perth to visit the Fremantle Dockers where we toured their training ground, watched the AFLW team train and met some of the players. After that, we had some friendly matches against some specialist AFL schools and we came away with a win and broken finger!

There were plenty of injuries slowing down our players during the year including one broken nose on a wet and cold Busselton afternoon – it was good to have Dr Coulson as our medic!

We had three Year 7 girls in our team this year – Kayla, Pearl and Ava. These girls came up against some Year 10 girls during the season, with some noticeable size differences this would have been daunting. But all girls grew in their football and confidence during the year and took on the challenges. Well done to the Year 7 girls.

Our Indigenous players were tasked to design the inaugural BCGS Indigenous Jumper during the year. The chosen design was created by Charlotte G who presented the design in front of the whole school. This jumper will be worn by many BCGS students over the coming years, a great legacy – well done Charlotte.

Another daunting task was filling the ruck position; Róisín, Adela and Paige came up against some very skilled and big opposition during the year. They battled on and really grew into the position – well done girls.

A special ‘thank you’ to the following people who have supported our players throughout the season: Mr David Cross, Mr Justin Harris, Mrs Julia Guidi, Mr Andrew Kirke and Mrs Harriet Coulson

Thank you as well to all other parents who have chipped in throughout the year.

The following are the award winners for the season:
