Bridging Now to Next #NRW2025
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future, calling on Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey: The successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part, we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures. Today, National Reconciliation Week is celebrated in workplaces, schools and early learning services, community organisations and groups, and by individuals nationwide.
As part of National Reconciliation Week, our entire School community will participate in a symbolic reconciliation walk from the Administration Building to Palmer Oval. This walk is a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on our shared history and commitment to a more unified future.
At Palmer Oval, students will gather around a recreation of the artwork created by Kalkadoon artist Bree Buttenshaw and being used as the symbol for Reconciliation Week 2025. This piece will feature native flora known for their ability to regenerate after fire and thrive through adversity, a powerful symbol of resilience, growth, and renewal. School staff has printed black and white T-shirts at School to show their support for Reconciliation Week, and will be worn during the week.
Students will learn more about this year’s theme, ‘Bridging Now to Next’, which encourages all Australians to honour the connection between past, present, and future. It is a call to walk forward together, guided by the lessons of the past.
To further mark the occasion, our school Jazz band, alongside Mr Joshua Grace, will lead the whole school into singing the theme song for Reconciliation Week ‘Solid Rock’ written by Shane Howard.
