“This year’s theme, Threads of Connection, beautifully captures the spirit of our boarding communities. Just like threads in a tapestry, the bonds formed between students, staff, and families are what hold our communities together. Each individual contributes their own unique thread – strengthening the collective fabric that fosters personal growth, lifelong friendships, and a true sense of belonging. It’s this interconnectedness that makes boarding more than just a place to live – it makes it a home.” – Australian Boarding Schools Association
Every year, schools across Australia celebrate National Boarding Week, recognising the vibrant and diverse Boarding communities in boarding schools. This annual event commemorates the unique experiences of boarders, the dedication of our Boarding staff, and the integral role that Boarding plays in the educational landscape.
From 12 May To 18 May, we have celebrated with a variety of fun activities and events throughout National Boarding Week!
Monday, 12th Boarders’ Morning Tea
To kick off National Boarding Week, a special morning tea has been prepared for our boarding students, offering them a chance to come together and celebrate the vibrant community they are a part of. The event provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere where students could relax, connect with their peers, and reflect on their unique boarding journey!

Tuesday, 13th Staff Appreciation Day
Boarders had a wonderful opportunity to invite day staff to dinner with our boarding students, creating a meaningful moment to strengthen connections across the school community. The evening was filled with lively conversation, shared stories, and a genuine sense of appreciation as staff experienced a glimpse in the life at boarding school.

Wednesday, 14th May, Tractor Pull Challenge + Wear Your Boarding Jumper to School
Students faced off in the ultimate showdown: The Tractor Pull Challenge! The Mission? To get one MASSIVE tractor to the finish line, with grit, and a big rope and a ton of student bodies! Boarders and staff rocked their old school boarding jumpers to stand around and cheer on the efforts of each team and, while there were no official winners, there was no shortage of fierce House teamwork and loud crowd support!

Thursday, 15th May, Parent Appreciation Day
Led by Head Boarder, Ethan Tomlinson, Boarding students have created a special video as a way of saying ‘Thanks’ to all of our Boarding students’ wonderful parents and carers on National Boarding Week. A touching tribute to the unwavering encouragement and love that families provide from near and far, reminding us all of the important role they play in each student’s journey.
Monday, 19th May, Formal Dinner
Our Boarding community came together for the annual Formal Dinner, a cherished tradition that celebrates everything we love about Boarding life at Bunbury Grammar. Huge thanks must go to our amazing catering team for the delicious feast that brought everyone to the table (and kept the conversations flowing!) and to our incredible boarding staff for the care, encouragement and steady support they show our boarders every single day. Laughter, stories and quality time together – this night had it all!

At Bunbury Grammar, National Boarding Week continues to be a yearly celebration, where our Boarding community reflect and share their stories. As schools prepare for future celebrations, the emphasis remains on fostering connections, embracing diversity and honouring the unique journey of every boarder.
