Interhouse carnivals are a defining part of life at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, bringing students together each year through swimming, athletics and cross country.
Since the School’s early days, these events have created opportunities for students to take part, represent their House and experience the energy of whole-school competition. What began as inclusive, community-focused events has grown into a series of well-established carnivals that sit at the heart of the School calendar.
Today, each carnival offers something different. The Interhouse Swimming Carnival sees Primary and Secondary events take over the stands (and the pool) at the South West Sports Centre, with parents cheering on. The Athletics Carnival spans a full program of track and field events, held at Hay Park Athletics, with a fun variety of food trucks, novelty events and costumes adding to the festive atmosphere. Our Cross Country takes students out across the School’s natural surrounds, utilising our own challenging track, and builds endurance and resilience along the way. Students run along staff, Primary is cheered by Secondary (and vice versa) and the energy of the day is just electric.
While House points and results are part of the experience, participation is just as important. Students of all ages and abilities are encouraged to get involved, whether they’re competing, supporting their peers or contributing to the atmosphere that makes these days what they are.
House spirit plays a central role throughout. It’s seen in the chants, the colours and the way students show up for one another. Over time, these shared experiences build a strong sense of belonging - something many families remember across generations of Grammarians.
Interhouse carnivals at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School continue to reflect a simple idea: when students come together, get involved and support each other, something lasting is created.
