Girls love of the game

Mr Trent Collins took on the coaching role for the School’s Year 6 to 8 Girls’ Australian Rules Football team this year. The team has had a successful season, finishing up as Minor Premiers, and making it through to the Preliminary Final. He reflects on the season that was.

It has been a pleasure coaching the team this year. In a season of both ups and downs,  the constant theme throughout was the team’s positivity and love for the game. Always enthusiastic and eager to improve, the students represented Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School proudly and should be commended on the season’s achievements.

We played 14 regular home and away games, finishing with a record of 13 wins and 1 loss. A combination of a rock-solid defence, dynamic midfield, and dangerous forward line, meant that we were confident playing anywhere in any conditions, including a wet and blustery day at Carey Park where the goal posts spent more time on, rather than in, the ground!

The team finished Minor Premiers at the conclusion of the regular season. Unfortunately we lost our two finals matches and bowed out in the Preliminary Final. Although we did not have the opportunity to play in a Grand Final, the team showed great tenacity and persistence throughout the year.

Thank you to Mr Yale Bolto for performing the role of team manager and assistant coach, the parents for assisting throughout the year with various roles and responsibilities, and to Mr Jason Reid and Mr Justin Harris for their unwavering support throughout the year.

With a sense of real optimism and passion, we will be back bigger and stronger in season 2023 for another memorable year!
