Swimming

There is always something happening as part of the Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Swimming program. Catering to both Primary and Secondary students, our program is designed to meet the needs of the individual. Students are encouraged to see the program as a way to improve their swimming skills and at the same time increase their fitness. Under the guidance of experienced coaches and teachers, the students are able to train all year during school terms. A range of sessions are offered to Primary and Secondary students each week. Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is proud to be the first Swimming WA Gold Endorsed School in WA.

Intermediate

Our Intermediate Squad is designed for athletes aged 10 to 14 years who have the desire to train for school swimming, surf training, triathlons and general fitness.  The squad is also a means to prepare for advancement to the Senior & Open Squads.

Development

Our Development Squad is designed for athletes aged 8 to 13 years who have a passion for swimming and are interested in progressing to competitive swimming.

Special Swims

Opportunities are also taken throughout the year to test improvement and development. Students are encouraged to participate in Time Trials held by the squads, public swimming events such as the WA Swimming Dash and Splash Meets for novice swimmers (Primary students), the Busselton Jetty Swim  (Primary and Secondary students) and the iconic Rottnest Island Channel Swim (restricted to Secondary students).

Camps and clinics

Students are invited to attend the clinics which are held early each term. Using facilities at both the School and the South West Aquatic Centre, students are put through their paces by leading elite development coaches from around WA. The students are involved in a range of activities dealing with goal setting, teamwork and, most importantly, swimming techniques.

Swim camps and trips

Wherever possible, students are offered the opportunity to attend a camp that involves travel to destinations across WA, interstate and internationally. Previous camps and trips have included Melbourne for the World Swimming Championships, Singapore for a swim against an International College and Albany for a swim against Great Southern Grammar.

Carnivals and competitions

Both Primary and Secondary conduct annual Interhouse Swimming Carnivals and students are also given the opportunity to represent their School in competitions against other colleges and schools.

  • Secondary Interhouse Swimming Carnival
  • ACC Swim Carnival
  • Interhouse Open Water Swim

Uniform

Students are required to wear School bathers and School cap when competing for the School. The costumes are available from the Sports Co-ordinator’s Office on the Secondary campus.  All students selected to swim for the School are provided with a School cap.  Replacements are available at the Sports Office.
