Secondary School

Our Secondary School is a place where students are known, supported and challenged to discover who they are and what they are capable of. With access to outstanding staff, excellent facilities and a broad, flexible curriculum, students explore their strengths, uncover new interests and extend themselves academically, creatively and personally.

Curriculum Overview / Year Groups

Across Years 7 to 12, learning is designed to build independence, resilience and confidence. Students develop strong academic foundations alongside life skills that matter - curiosity, adaptability, drive and purpose. Through classroom learning, exceptional co-curricular opportunities and experiences beyond the classroom, Bunbury Grammar students grow into capable, compassionate young adults, ready for life beyond school.

Year 7

A year of transition and connection

Year 7 is carefully designed to support students during this important, transitional stage. Our purpose-built Year 7 Centre provides a supportive, structured environment with flexible learning spaces and access to all Secondary School facilities.

Led by a dedicated Year 7 Coordinator, students are guided by specialist teachers across core subjects including English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities, alongside a broad range of learning areas such as Health and Physical Education, French, Music, Drama, Visual Arts, Media, Design and Technology, Food and Textiles, and Religious and Philosophical Studies.

A strong focus on STEM, organisation, study habits and digital literacy helps students build confidence and understand Secondary School expectations. Through the Connect Program and responsible laptop use, students develop skills that support learning and wellbeing, creating a strong foundation for future success.

Years 8 and 9

A time of growth and exploration

Years 8 and 9 are a time for broad exploration and personal growth. Students engage in a wide range of subjects across all learning areas, including English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education, Performing Arts, Technology and Creative Industries, and Religious and Philosophical Studies.

Learning is guided by our Model of Learning, with lessons designed to be engaging, research-informed and purposeful. Students develop perseverance, self-regulation and a strong work ethic, while continuing to build confidence in their academic and personal capabilities.

Alongside academic learning, students strengthen study habits, digital skills and creative thinking, preparing them for the increased independence and challenge of the senior years.

Year 10

A year of focus and future planning

Year 10 is a pivotal year, supporting students as they begin to shape their future pathways - they move into streamed classes in Mathematics, Science and Humanities, while selecting specialist courses aligned with their interests and strengths.

Opportunities such as work experience placements and Outdoor and Adventure Learning expeditions in Term 1 help students develop confidence, resilience and leadership skills. Career education and pathway planning are embedded throughout the year, supporting informed decision-making for senior studies.

With access to one of the most extensive ranges of ATAR, General and Certificate courses in the South West, Year 10 students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, set goals and prepare confidently for Senior Secondary School.

Year 11-12

A time for leadership and future pathways

In Years 11 and 12, students step into leadership and take increasing responsibility for their learning and future direction. With a strong focus on goal setting and academic commitment, students prepare for life beyond school - whether that pathway leads to university, further training or employment.

Students typically study six courses in Year 11 and five in Year 12, with dedicated time for independent study. A wide range of ATAR, General and Certificate courses allow students to tailor a program that reflects their aspirations and strengths.

Through the Aspire Program, students may access Certificate courses, study at the Regional Trade Training Centre, or participate in work placements. Specialist pathway programs, including the Medical and Allied Health Program, provide targeted mentoring and support.

Our graduates leave as confident, capable and compassionate young people, ready to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider world.
