Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the traditional owners of this land both past and present. This land is the home of the Noongar people. We are standing now on Wardandi country the place of the dolphin dreaming. The Wardandi people are the coastal people and have strong links to this area. With respect to the current Wardandi people and ancestors of the past we thank them for accepting us. Today with mutual respect and understanding, we acknowledge the past and its differences and now look forward to working together to build strong relations.

A Place to Learn, Lead and Belong

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is proud to welcome Aboriginal students from communities across Western Australia — from Broome and Paraburdoo to Carnarvon, the Goldfields, Perth and the South West. Each student brings their own story, strengths and cultural identity, and we work in partnership with families to ensure every young person feels safe, respected and supported from their first day with us.

Our School stands on Wardandi Noongar Country. We honour the deep cultural knowledge, histories and languages that shape this place and actively weave cultural learning into daily school life.

Aboriginal Culture and Language Coordinator

Central to this commitment is the role of our Aboriginal Culture and Language Coordinator, Maxine Williams.

Maxine plays a vital role in:

  • Building strong cultural connections for students across Primary, Secondary and Boarding
  • Supporting students to stay proud, grounded and confident in their identity
  • Guiding staff in culturally responsive practices
  • Strengthening relationships between school, family and Country
  • Contributing to cultural learning programs and whole-School initiatives

Her work ensures that Indigenous students are known, supported and connected - at school, at home, and on Country.

Indigenous Scholarships

To support access and opportunity, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School offers Indigenous scholarships in partnership with MADALAH and AIEF for students entering both day and boarding pathways.

These scholarships aim to:

  • recognise student talent, effort and cultural leadership
  • support success across academic, cultural, artistic, sporting and community domains
  • encourage long-term pathways into senior schooling, tertiary study and future careers

Families are encouraged to contact our Enrolments Team to explore scholarship availability, eligibility and application timelines.

Reconciliation Action Plan

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) guides how we walk together as a school community - with intention, accountability and respect. Developed in consultation with local voices, our RAP outlines clear commitments to building understanding, strengthening relationships and creating culturally safe learning environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

For Indigenous families, our RAP means:

  • a visible and genuine commitment to reconciliation, beyond symbolic moments
  • Indigenous perspectives embedded across learning, wellbeing and community
  • ongoing staff learning to ensure culturally informed, respectful practice
  • a school culture that values listening and relationship-building

Our RAP is a living document, shaped by reflection, action and partnership.
