65 Roses Day: Students Rally Behind a Cause Close to Home

Students Connor Barrett and Sam Crow led a meaningful 65 Roses Day campaign, raising funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis.

65 Roses Day Fundraising

Students across Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School have spent the week raising funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis as part of 65 Roses Day, supporting a cause that is particularly meaningful for Year 5 student Connor Barrett, who lives with the condition every day.

On Thursday, Primary students swapped their uniforms for red clothing, filling the campus with colour as they took part in a special fundraising day. The initiative, led by Year 5 student Sam Crow and supported by fellow students, included a raffle that raised an incredible $688.85 for Cystic Fibrosis WA.

At a Primary School Assembly, Connor shared his own experience of living with Cystic Fibrosis and explained the story behind 65 Roses Day. Speaking openly about the daily realities of the condition, Connor told students about everything he does to stay healthy.

Connor also explained how the name of the day originated when a four-year-old boy named Ricky misheard the words "Cystic Fibrosis" and instead called it "65 Roses" - a symbol that has become recognised around the world.

Today, Connor joined Primary and Secondary choir students as they visited local aged care facilities, sharing music, gifting roses generously provided by William Barrett & Sons to residents. Alongside bringing joy to residents, students helped spread awareness of Cystic Fibrosis throughout the wider community.

Reflecting on the support he and his family have received over the years, Connor reminded audiences that 65 Roses Day is about more than fundraising.

"65 Roses Day is about raising awareness, and it is also about supporting research so that one day there can be a cure."

We congratulate Connor, Sam and all students involved in this wonderful initiative - through their generosity, leadership and compassion, they help make a real difference!
