







Our Executive Leadership Team guides the strategic direction of the School and ensures that every student is supported to learn, grow and flourish. With deep experience across education, wellbeing, boarding and operations, they work together to uphold our values and shape a vibrant, future-focused School community.

Matthew O’Brien is the Principal and CEO of Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, a position he has held since 2021. He focuses on strategic planning, educational technology, and school expansion. He previously served as the school’s Head of Secondary, bringing over 20 years of teaching experience
Principal & CEO

Yale Bolto has served as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School since 2021. He oversees a diverse portfolio including Finance, IT, Human Resources, Operations, Marketing and Enrolments. In this role, he contributes to the school’s strategic direction, financial sustainability, and operational effectiveness.

The Head of Secondary is responsible for leading Secondary Staff to provide excellent academic, pastoral and co-curricular education. In doing so, they have specific responsibilities for the Secondary School to ensure the ethos of the School and its strategic objectives are achieved.

Rob moved to Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School in 2017 as Head of Primary, following twelve years at Georgiana Molloy in Busselton. He believes every student should have the opportunity to flourish and that a love of learning should be a lifelong goal for us all, whether negotiating the first days of Kindy or approaching retirement. Rob values the incredible natural environment provided at Grammar and promotes a balanced approach to primary teaching that embraces both inquiry learning and explicit instruction.

Leadership begins with our students. Whether taking on formal roles or stepping up in everyday moments, our student leaders model service, initiative and care for their peers. From Year 7 onwards, students engage with leadership through House activities, service learning, Round Square opportunities, and mentoring.
Our School Captains, House Captains and Student Executive represent the wider student body and help shape a positive, vibrant and inclusive school culture.

Leeuwin is a motivated Year 12 student, he values strong friendships and enjoys the school’s woodwork facilities. He is passionate about service and improving systems, bringing an open-minded leadership style with the ability to turn ideas into action. Outside school, he enjoys surfing, fishing, surf lifesaving, boating, and going to the gym.

Indi is a well-rounded student who believes in diversity, equality, and community spirit. While aiming to excel in her ATAR studies, Indi also aspires to be a role model making positive change at Grammar. She values spending time with her loved ones and staying active in the netball community.

Eedi enjoys learning, particularly in French and Chemistry, and values time spent with friends. She is organised and driven, committed to creating meaningful, positive change led by students for the school while continuing to grow through expanding her knowledge and personal interests.

Emily comes from the inland town of Katanning. She is passionate about making the lives and experiences of all boarders better, from the little things, like teaching new boarders how to tie their tie to the bigger picture of helping with homesickness.

Rt Revd Dr Ian Coutts is the Bishop of Bunbury Diocese and Visitor to the school. He is due to retire at the end of August. Ian is married to Anne, who was a School Principal in four schools, three in the UK and one in Canberra. Ian has been a social worker in child protection, child and adolescent mental health and family and domestic violence, an adjunct theology lecturer at CSU, a General Manager with Anglicare in Canberra, and bishop of Bunbury diocese since 2018. His interests include flying, as a private pilot, and model railways.
Visitor

Andrew Kirke is a Bunbury GP and academic. He heads the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia which trains medical students from the three WA medical schools in rural medicine. Andrew and his wife Clare have had four children at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, the last is completing year 12 in 2026.

Angela is a lawyer with 19 years of experience working in-house in government. In addition to her legal skills, she brings to the Board her experience in assessing risk and implementing strategic policy, as well as a strong commitment to public service.

The Very Revd Darryl Cotton is the Anglican Dean of Bunbury and a committed leader in the life of the Church through his ministry at St. Boniface Anglican Cathedral. He holds a Bachelor of Theology and a Bachelor of Divinity (cum laude) from Rhodes University and has served on the Board of Governors since 2016.

Dr Jacinta Cover is a specialist general surgeon working in the Southwest community for over 10 years. She is the Medical Codirector for Surgical, Maternity and Paediatric services at Bunbury Hospital. Her interest in education has led her to undertake a Masters of Health Professional Education. Her 4 sons attend BCGS.

Jane Whiddon (née Lishman) was a BCGS Foundation Student in 1972. After a career as a Trade Commissioner she has spent the last 15years in the NFP sector, focusing on childrens' health and education. Jane runs a Family Investment Office and is a mother as well as a proud daughter of the school's founders.
