Underwater hockey champions rave about stay in boarding

The unique cottage style boarding facilities at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School have proven the ideal accommodation choice for sporting or community groups travelling to Bunbury to participate in events being held in the city.

During the summer holidays, the School hosted interstate underwater hockey teams competing in the 2023 Underwater Hockey National Championships held at the South West Sport Centre. The visitors felt well received and had plenty of positive things to say about the facilities, grounds and support provided.

“It was such a privilege to stay here. The grounds are spectacular, and the bush setting makes you feel like you are at home. It is fantastic to be on the same property together. We are a team of 30 players, and while we stayed in separate units, we were able to all be in the same place and enjoy the common areas together. In terms of team building and team bonding, we could not have asked for anything better. I got to stay in Unit 7A, which we thought was the best unit, with lots of space,” said Ruth, the team manager for South Australia.

“We had two teams travel from Tasmania and I really enjoyed my stay. It is a lovely place for kids to come. It was clean and had nice areas to relax and socialise,” said Indi, a member of the U/15 Tasmanian team.

“I think the rooms which we have been staying in are spacious, the showers and the general facilities as well as the food, were really nice,” said Eugin, a member of the U/15 South Australian team. His teammate, Matthew also enjoyed his stayed, commenting “the common room was a good area to chill, and hang out with mates.”

The School Catering Manager, Mr Paul Walker and his team worked tirelessly to provide the visitors with nutritious and filling meals. Their efforts were noted, with Meaghan, the team manager for the U/19 Victorian team making special mention of the kitchen staff and the fresh food.

“Mr Paul Walker from the kitchen did a superb job, providing healthy salad rolls and wraps daily, and breakfasts had lots of variety. After our first dinner meal, the kids raved about the lasagna and said it was fantastic. It was a fantastic facility, and we felt very lucky to have stayed here. Our team members had the chance to enjoy the beautiful bushland campus as well as being looked after with all of our meals.”

Community groups or sporting teams interested in viewing or staying in the Boarding facilities are encouraged to contact the School on 9722 6000.
