Traffic light system

The BCGS canteen menu is consistent with the Australian Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents. The menu includes a wide variety of foods from the five food categories (grain/cereals, fruit, vegetables, dairy and protein). The ‘traffic light’ system is the Department of Education’s Healthy Food and Drink policy that categorises food into three categories:

  • RED - Off the menu; not available eg chocolate, soft  drinks, full-fat pastry, deep fried food, confectionary.
  • AMBER - Select carefully; these are limited.
  • GREEN - Fill the menu; encourage and promote as everyday choices.
