Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School students have excelled in a wide range of academic, sporting and co-curricular activities and competitions throughout Term 2. Some student achievements are listed below:
Country Week Netball
Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School’s Netball team won for the fourth consecutive time at the Country Week championships in Perth. The Division 1 squad beat Great Southern Grammar 26 to 35 to claim the win.
Artistic Roller skating
Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Year 11 student Hamish Leahy has been selected for the Australian team at the Oceania Artistic Roller Skating Championships in September after his success at the national championships. Hamish won gold in Compulsory Dance Pairs, silver in Quartet and bronze in Free Dance Pairs with his partner Kaylah Chorlton at the Australian Artistic Roller Skating Championships.
An excellent year for Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School students at the 2017 Eisteddfod. The School's bands and ensembles achieved a number of first placings plus many more individual placings. Visit 2017 Eisteddfod success to find out more.
Robotics and Coding
On Saturday, 10 June, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School’s Robotics Club competed in the RoboCup Junior South Metro at All Saints' College in Perth. Secondary team OpreBots and Open nomination Simplex Nomina now have guaranteed places at the WA state event held at Curtin Stadium on 4 and 5 August after being named winners in their respective categories. Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Year 7 student Dennis Dixon will be the youngest competitor at the Tasar World Championships in Japan starting 30 July. Read more about Dennis at the Sailing World Championships.
BCGS come home with a win for the boys and runners-up for the girls at the ACC Hockey Challenge at Hay Park in June. See the ACC Hockey photo gallery.
Congratulations to Meg Read, Year 11, who was selected in the School Sport Australia All-Australian Hockey team this year.
Year 11 students Emma Kirkham and Emily Graham were named as 2017 Yosemite Alcoa Scholars to participate in the NatureBridge Alcoa Scholars program from 6 August to 19 August 2017. Read more about the BCGS pair heading to the US.
Students Annika Keall, Year 11, and Samantha Blackham, Year 10, have been selected in the Australian under 19 team for the CMAS Underwater Hockey Junior World Championships in July. More about their selection in the Underwater Hockey Championships.
Year 11 student Joshua Wigmore has been named in Team Australia for the 2017 Oceania Athletics Championships in Fiji. Joshua will compete in the Under 18 category in the 400m and relay, taking on athletes from across the Pacific region. Read more BCGS student to represent Australian athletics.
Five BCGS teams competed at the inaugural South West Interschool Mountain Bike Race in May. BCGS performed strongly, winning the inaugural School Champions award for the maximum number of laps achieved by a school in total (53 laps) and won gold and silver in the Year 7/8 category and bronze in the Year 9/10 category. Year 6 Speakers Challenge
Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School’s Year 6 students excelled at the Independent Primary Schools Heads of Australia Speakers’ Challenge at Scotch College on 28 June. Coming home with two gold medals and a bronze, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School was the only regional school to enter the competition. Read more about the Year 6 Speakers’ Challenge.
