English Language Requirements
To ensure every student is able to succeed, international students must demonstrate a strong grasp of the English language before commencing study. Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School requires prospective students to complete an English language assessment through the Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS).
If a student does not meet the required proficiency, they will be encouraged to undertake an intensive English course before starting school. English ability is the key factor in determining whether a place will be offered.
Please contact AEAS directly for details about testing dates and locations.
Boarding at Bunbury Grammar
Safe, inclusive, and full of South West adventure! Bunbury Grammar boarding is more than just a place to stay – it’s a welcoming, supportive home away from home. Unless living with a parent or legal guardian, international students are required to reside in our on-campus boarding facilities.
Our unique cottage-style boarding houses are nestled within our beautiful bushland campus, just minutes from the beach. These small, supportive living environments are designed to provide students with a balance of guidance and independence – helping them grow in confidence, responsibility, and resilience as they prepare for their next steps beyond Secondary school.
Boarding students enjoy:
-
Safe and comfortable accommodation on School grounds
-
Nutritious meals and 24/7 staff supervision
-
Daily cleaning and weekly laundry service
-
Access to the School nurse, psychologists and Chaplain
-
Transport to appointments and extracurricular activities
-
Social connection with students from around the world
And beyond the classroom? There’s plenty to explore. From surfing and beach days to hiking, mountain biking and weekend trips, students can experience the best of Australia’s natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle – right here in the South West. Our Boarding staff play a huge role in making this experience so special – they’re not only experienced and caring, but genuinely invested in each student’s wellbeing and growth.
Please note: The Boarding House is closed during mid-term breaks and school holidays. If students are not returning home, the School will assist in arranging suitable, safe accommodation (additional costs apply).
Health and Wellbeing
The health and wellbeing of our students is always a priority – especially for those living far from home. At Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, international students benefit from a strong support network that includes on-site medical care, access to regional health services, and a dedicated team focused on their emotional and social wellbeing.
All overseas students are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of their student visa. Families are responsible for arranging this cover and providing a copy of the policy to the School before commencement.
Within our Boarding program, students are supported by:
-
A qualified School Nurse who checks in with boarders daily
-
Boarding staff trained in first aid and student care
-
Assistance with booking and attending medical appointments off-site
-
Access to excellent local and regional health providers, including private medical specialists if required
In addition to physical health support, we place a strong focus on student wellbeing. Our on-site Wellbeing team includes a registered psychologist and social worker, available to support students through any challenges they may face — whether academic, personal, or emotional.
We understand that studying in another country is a big step. Our goal is to make sure every student feels safe, supported, and genuinely cared for while they are with us.
