There's always something happening with our Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Swimming progamme. Catering to both Primary and Secondary students, our programme is designed to meet the needs of the individual. Students are encouraged to see the programme as a way to improve their swimming skills and at the same time increase their fitness. Under the guidance of experienced coaches and teachers, the students are able to train all year during school terms. A range of sessions are offered to Primary and Secondary students each week.
Training Sessions and Times (conducted at the South West Sports Centre Pool, Hay Park, Bunbury)
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - 6.00am to 7.30am
Monday 4.30pm to 5.30pm Year 4/5

Training application forms can be found in the Downloads section below.
The School provides dedicated and fully qualified coaching staff to supervise the training sessions.
Opportunities are also taken throughout the year to test improvement and development. Students are encouraged to participate in public swimming events such as the WA Swimming Dive and Try Meets for novice swimmers (Primary and lower Secondary students), the Busselton Jetty Swim and the iconic The Rottnest Island Channel Swim (restricted to Secondary students).
Camps & Clinics
Students are invited to attend the Prep Clinics held early each term. Using facilities at both the School and the South West Aquatic Centre, students are put through their paces by leading elite development coaches from Perth. The students are involved in a range of activities dealing with goal setting, teamwork and, most importantly, swimming techniques. See Downloads below for upcoming events.
Swim Camps and Trips
Wherever possible, students are offered the opportunity to attend a camp that involves travel to destinations across WA and interstate. Previous camps and trips have included Melbourne for the World Swimming Championships, Singapore for a swim against an International College and Albany for a swim against Great Southern Grammar.
Carnivals and Competitions
Both Primary and Secondary conduct annual Interhouse Swimming Carnivals and students are also given the opportunity to represent their School in competitions against other colleges and schools.
Students are required to wear School bathers and School cap when competing for the School. The “state-of-the-art”, microline costumes are available from the Sports Co-ordinator’s Office on the Secondary campus. All students selected to swim for the School are provided with a School cap. Replacements are available at the Sports Office.
Rottnest Channel Swim
Since 1999, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School has regularly had competitors in both the duo and teams of four sections of the prestigious Rottnest Island Channel Swim. The only solo competitor, Nicholas Bowen (1999), was the first entry of a student from the School in the event. Since then, more than 100 students have added their names to the list of swimmers that have completed the 19.7 km swim from Cottesloe Beach to Thompsons Bay at Rottnest Island.
Dozens of community members have provided their vessels and expertise to escort the teams to Rottnest every year. Without their invaluable support, it would be not possible for students from Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School to experience one of the major endurance swimming events of the southern hemisphere.
