The Arts

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School provides each child with the opportunity to develop their individual talents across a wide variety of subjects.

We recognise and value the contribution of The Arts to our community and encourage our students to pursue their interest in music, drama or visual arts. Lessons in these areas are provided from Kindergarten by specialist teachers and our secondary students can elect to continue their studies through to graduation with Certificate and ATAR courses offered in all three areas.

Music

From the start of their learning journey at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, students are introduced to music.

In the Early Learning years, students are taught to enjoy creating music through the use of different instruments; to understand how to move to music and the beauty of singing along to a song.

During the primary years, students are introduced to reading music, playing music and making music. Year 3 students are provided the opportunity to learn a string instrument as part of their curriculum. Year 4 students discover the joy of the recorder and Year 5 students are able to expand their knowledge through the playing of a wind instrument.

Our Secondary School Music program provides students with a wide range of ensembles, bands and choirs to join.  These all regularly perform at School and local events and provide a wonderful opportunity for students to expand their repertoire and develop the ability to play as part of a group.

Individual music tuition is offered, with a number of well-qualified and experienced visiting musicians available to tutor students. Tuition is conducted during the School day, and rotated each week to ensure the same classes are not missed. View the Instrumental Music Flyer for further information. Drama

With an annual School production, our budding thespians have many opportunities to engage in live performances each year.

Drama is provided as part of the performing arts curriculum in our Primary Years, with Secondary students able to elect to carry this subject through to graduation.  We are proud that many of our graduates have continued their passion and been accepted to the WA Performing Arts Academy.

Visual Arts

Our School is decorated widely with the artwork of our students. A wander through our campus reveals colourful walls and hidden statues, created by our current and past students.

In Primary, colourful drawings and paintings fill the classrooms and decorate the windows. Our Primary and Secondary Administration offices feature a variety of student work, highlighting the variety of mediums and the vast talents of our students.

Each August, we host an Art Exhibition, displaying work from our Kindergarten to Year 12 students. This is a wonderful community event that provides our parents and wider Bunbury Community with the opportunity to view the wonderful work of our students. Works include clay fired pieces, textiles, woodwork, metalwork, paintings, sculptures, photography and mixed medium pieces. Each year, the Old Grammarians Association selects a piece of work to receive the Art Acquisition Award. The promising artist is offered the opportunity for their artwork to be purchased by the School, and be permanently on display in the School.

Media

Students interested in how to capture and portray the many facets of life on film are well catered to with our Media course. We are lucky to have one of the premiere film festivals- Cinefest Oz- hosted in our region, with our students featuring as past winners of the Cinesnaps Short Film Competition. Students gain exposure to world of media and film through options in Year 7 and 8 and can further develop their expertise in these areas during Senior Secondary School. Footage shot by students is regularly used at School events.
