Students Farewell Rottnest Swim

The 2015 Rottnest Channel Swim, held on Saturday 21 February, was an extra special one for eight of the 20 Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School students who competed with nostalgia, as they prepared to swim it for the final time as part of the School’s swim team.

In the 25th anniversary of the swim Year 12 students Gerred McCracken, Jacob Dubois, Leon Doret, Lauren Patane and Hannah Daggett completed their fourth crossing as a member of a school team.  Year 12 students Sarah Williams and Kirsten Roberts notched up their third swim, whilst Danielle Castro completed her second crossing.

This year the School entered five teams each made up of four swimmers. The three girl’s teams and two boys teams acquitted themselves admirably on a day that made it difficult for all teams.  A strong early sea breeze made the last few kilometres of the swim a struggle for some.

The girls finished 4th, 8th and 15th in their category, while the boys finished 5th and 14th. The school records for the crossing were never under threat, but the times recorded by the teams were excellent and a just reward for the effort they put into preparing for the event during the past year and the teamwork and commitment they displayed.
