RSIC Cape Town

The 2017 Round Square International Conference (RSIC) was held in South Africa over the holidays - “Unite to Ignite the Fire Within”.

I was fortunate to take a delegation of five fabulous students to Botswana on a very rugged and exciting safari followed by the Conference in Cape Town.

The students who were terrific ambassadors for BCGS are Tharushi Pallegedara, Megan Fowler, Georgia Uren, Lochlann Owen-Tucker and Declan Rosher.

We saw fabulous African wildlife in Botswana, camping out with two all-girls schools, one from Canada and one from NSW. The two boys in a group of over 20 females coped very well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

At the conference, we listened to some wonderful speakers including Caleb Swanepoel, a young 22-year-old who lost his leg to a great white shark two years ago, and Dr William Fowlds a Veterinary Surgeon trying to save as many Rhinos as possible after they are poached, brutally attacked with machetes or axes for their horns with and left to die.

The Conference was well run and the students enjoyed an Amazing Race around Cape Town, Hiking Table Mountain and some service in local schools.

Next year’s conference will be held in Canada in late September/October and will be open to all students over 16 at the time of the conference.
