Robotics and Coding success

On Saturday, 10 June, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School’s Robotics Club competed in the RoboCup Junior South Metro at All Saints' College in Perth.

Secondary team OpreBots and Open nomination Simplex Nomina now have guaranteed places at the WA state event held at Curtin Stadium on 4 and 5 August after being named winners in their respective categories.

Attending the South Metro event assists our Robotic Club teams to engage immersive learning with other like-minded competitors from across the South Metro area. Sharing code, robot design techniques and observing the differing ways competitors approach the Rescue tasks helps with the teams’ reflections upon their own designs and coding.

Simplex Nomina – Caitlin Shaw: After struggling a little with the first two rounds, Caitlin persevered and demonstrated excellent resilience to improve her score to competition winning levels. Caitlin is a previous gold medal winner in this event and her enthusiasm for coding and robot continues to grow.

OpreBots – Ethan Gilfuis (Team Captain), Oscar Beaumont, Ryan Forster, Shane Goddard and Henry Delbridge: Having experienced a disappointing start to the competition, the team felt a little deflated. Ethan demonstrated excellent team leadership by guiding the team to re-code the robot which resulted in the team scoring well in the final rounds.

Well done to all participants.
