Former student graduates from Oxford University

South West Rhodes scholar and former BCGS student Rachel Paterson (05) recently completed her PhD in Infection, Immunology and Translational Medicine at Oxford University. Her thesis focused on T Cell receptors.

Dr Paterson has been offered an exciting research scientist position with Immunocore, a world-leading bio-technology company based in South Oxford in the UK and Philadelphia in the USA.

Immunocore’s work is based on harnessing the immune system to fight tumours, infectious diseases and autoimmunity, and has already shown promise in clinical trials against cancer.

Rachel is well-known for her instrumental work in bringing Women’s Australian Rules Football to Oxford University.

Rachel has spent time as an assistant coach of the Oxford Men’s Aussie Rules team and founded the Oxford Women’s Aussie Rules team in 2015.

An informal Women’s match was included in the 2017 Varsity Games between Oxford and Cambridge and there are now plans for its formal inclusion in the 2018 Varsity Games.

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School congratulates Rachel and wishes her the very best in her next endeavours.
