Donna Cross Discusses Child Development

Donna Cross visited Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School on 1 May 2017 to give a parent presentation called 'Building Brains:  Actions to optimise our children’s social and emotional development and wellbeing online and offline.'

A recording of Professor Cross' presentation is now available.

Much of what we know about brain development we have learning in the past 15 years. Since brain development is integrally related to environmental factors, it is important to understand what can be done by families, schools and other important social environments in a child’s life to optimise their development.  Active early intervention offers the greatest hope for children's future, especially the protective effects of secure attachment in the face of stress. Professor Cross' presentation discussed the simple actions all parents can take to maximise their children’s neural development.

Donna Cross is a professor with the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Western Australia and the Telethon Kids Institute, who has engaged in research in more than 30 large empirical trials, addressing child and adolescent health promotion issues related to mental health, cyber safety, injury control, drug use control and healthy lifestyles.
