Camp Blossoms Student's Love of Science

While most Secondary students will be looking forward to a Christmas holiday break this December, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Year 10 student Maddison Bedford is looking forward to immersing herself in her favourite subject – Science.

Maddison has been selected as one of only a couple of Western Australian Year 10 students to take part in CSIRO’s Indigenous STEM education programme aimed at increasing participation and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). She has been selected to take part in a summer camp in Adelaide for a week during December from Monday 14 December until Tuesday 22 December.

Maddison, who is also a Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Scholarship recipient said she is looking forward to learning more about the environmental side of the camp as she enjoys learning about plants, flora and animals.

Over a week the students will conduct a botanical survey and discover traditional uses of plants for food, medicine and fibres with researchers from the University of Adelaide. They will also work with CSIRO on the science behind food, nutrition and health.
