BCGS Swimming Clinic

Two leading Western Australian swimmers hosted 25 BCGS students at the South West Sports Centre for a clinic on Sunday, 23 July.

Heidi Gan and former student Ryan Evernden helped students from Year 4 to 11 develop a better understanding of training options and to improve their swimming techniques.

Secondary swimming coach Bob Marshall said it was an ideal chance for students to learn some great skills and enjoy the company of their schoolmates.

“The Swim Clinic is an opportunity for students to learn from the best coaches in Western Australia,” Mr Marshall said.

“Heidi and Ryan were great coaches – the students really enjoyed it and I think their swimming will benefit greatly.”

Ryan Evernden is a former Bunbury student who has competed at various national swimming championships and placed eighth in the 200 metres Breaststroke event at the 2015 Australian World Championships trials. Mr Evernden is the co-founder and head coach of Formidable Strength and Conditioning.

Heidi Gan, based in Perth, is a dual Olympian and gold medalist of the 2017 Asian Games. Ms Gan is considered one of Malaysia’s most successful swimmers of all-time after becoming the first Malaysian to represent her country in the open water marathon swim at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is the only Swimming WA gold accredited school, hosting a strong swimming programme for Primary and Secondary students. For more information about the programme, visit the Swimming page.
