Striving for academic excellence is important at our School. From Year 3 to Year 7, we continue to focus on the development of literacy, numeracy and cognitive skills – providing each child with the strongest of foundations for their future learning. All students in Years 3, 5 and 7 sit the WA Literacy and Numeracy tests each year and selected students in Years 3 to 7 participate in the University of NSW Educational Testing Centre’s competitions. In 2008, our students will sit the National Literacy and Numeracy tests in May.
Cross grading in Mathematics occurs from Years 2 to 7 to give each student the opportunity to extend themselves at their own level. 'Pull Out' and 'Cluster' groups are provided for students who are gifted in English, Science and Technology and Enterprise. Two Enrichment Teachers and two Teacher Assistants are also available for those children needing assistance in a particular area.
At the Grammar School we have a range of specialist teachers who support the curriculum in Christian Education, Music, Library, Art, French and Japanese.

Our Primary Music programme is also well established. Our Senior Choir, Junior Choir and the Primary Chorale perform in local eisteddfods and festivals. To supplement the programme, all children in Year 3 learn a stringed instrument for a semester and all children in Year 6 learn a brass or woodwind instrument for the whole year. There are currently more than sixty Primary School students receiving individual instrument tuition.
In every learning area, in-class assessments take many forms, with each student producing a portfolio of their achievements. Formal reporting occurs at the end of each semester. The reports that are produced use Student Outcome Statements from the Curriculum Framework. These formal reports are supported by parent interviews at which teachers are able to give a thorough profile of each student.
